Hello Darcy and welcome to the community!

When you have wood that is in constant contact with soil, it's recommend that you use pressure treated wood that is rated "Ground Contact" or .40 PCF. When you look at the end of the wood, where the Bar Code is, the label will indicate the type of wood you are purchasing.

If you needed wood for the top of a deck that had no contact with the soil, then you would purchase pressure treated wood labeled as "Above Ground" or .25 PCF (preservative per cubic foot).
