How To Install a Chandelier

New Homes Demand New Decor!

Enlisting the photographic skills of Blake "TheDIYGuy," we prepared this photo-essay to show "How To Install a Chandelier.”

When shown "How To," most people marvel at the ease of installation, then jump right into their own lighting project.

Let's have a look at the (relatively simple) steps:

Original chandelier doesn't match new decor.

Locate and turn the breaker off.

Remove retaining ring and escutcheon plate (ornamental flange).

Support light, disconnect wires, and remove support from ceiling box.

Install new support from light kit into ceiling box.

Assemble new chandelier following instructions from light kit.

Assemble new escutcheon plate and retaining ring on chain before hanging new chandelier.

Suspend new chandelier, measuring for proper height ... approximately twenty-two inches.

Remove chain links and test height by sitting at table.

Pair wires and twist wire nuts until snug.

Install new escutcheon plate and retaining ring.

Install proper bulbs, turn the breaker on, flip the wall switch, and enjoy your new chandelier.

NOTE: The Hampton Bay Gala 9-Light Polished Nickel Chandelier shown in this "How To" photo-essay is available at HomeDepot.com ... an endless warehouse with countless other decor items to improve your home.

The home where we conducted the photo shoot for this DIY chandelier install was absolutely gorgeous!

What a difference the Polished Nickel fixture made ... complimenting the colors in the room.

Have you ever completed a project like this and then just stood back and smiled???
