How To Refinish Cabinets with Stain and Polyurethane-In-One
Stain and Poly; Both Water-based and Oil-based
Community Member, Falling Wind was debating with her husband how to refinish their cabinets.
The project hinged upon whether the existing finish was water-based or oil-based.
The "How To" video describes a test that helped them determine.
With the test result in-hand, they proceeded to produce an exceptional new coating exactly like the one shown above.
IMAGE ABOVE:
Original cabinet color: Golden Oak oil-based finish
Preparation: Buff sand with 220-grit sandpaper and remove sanding dust
Refinished with:
Minwax Polyshades American Chestnut Gloss
oil-based
If the original finish had been water-based, they would have used
Varathane Stain and Poly Light Walnut Semi-Gloss
water-based.
