How To Take Your Backyard Back From Flying Insects

With the warmer months in full swing our backyards are often used for cooking, relaxing, and entertaining. However with pests such as; fly’s, mosquitos, and other creepy crawly bugs we have to take up arms and “take our backyards’ back!”

Let’s take a look at some ideas for keeping those invaders at bay to enjoy our yards again;

1)    Plants such as: Citronella, Lemon Balm, Catnip, Marigolds, Basil, Lavender, Peppermint, Garlic, Pennyroyal, Rosemary, Geranium, to name a few.

2)    Citronella candles  are an excellent repellent for keeping bugs from bugging you. Make sure you have products that are listed as “citronella oil” not citronella scented for best results.

3)    There are aerosol sprays that give you protection from flying bugs as well as the biting type. There also are ones for use in areas of your yard too.

4)    Citronella Tiki torches are great for adding a tropical look to your outdoor event. The citronella oil is the same used in the candles.

5)    Clip on bug repellents are fast becoming widely used by hikers and other outdoors people everywhere.

6)    Bug Zappers are a great chemical free answer to the pest problem. They also offer an entertaining look at bugs being electrocuted for daring to bother you…zzzzzt!

Other ideas such as using netting or shade cloth to create a physical barrier between you and the outside bugs is a tried and true answer to protecting yourself.

Tip: when having an outdoors event, it is a good idea to not use any perfumes, deodorant, or scented lotions as these will attract mosquitos, flies, and other flying insects.

Happy Summering,
