How can I make a headboard free standing? I don't want to attach it to my wall.

I have a headboard that I need to have it "free standing" because it doesn't fit my bed frame & I don't want to attach it to my wall.  What can I do / put on the legs so it will stand on its own?

Hi Gadgetqueen,

Here is one way to attach legs to your headboard.

Most headboards have to long end sections designed to attach the headboard to the bed frame.

Attach two 4 x 4 pieces of lumber to the base of the headboard. These pieces should be 3-4 foot long.

Place the legs so they protrude out toward the bed and away from the wall. This will allow you to place the headboard

close to the wall.

These two pieces should be parallel to the frame of the bed, and will act as legs to support the headboard.

The weight of the wood will stabilize the headboard and keep it upright.

You can attach the legs to the headboard with "L" brackets, which along with the  4 x 4 wood may be purchased at your local Home Depot.

I have included a drawing below.
