How can I refinish my kitchen cabinets without stripping them

I have added hardwood strips to my doors and drawers to make them shaker style, now I need a finish. The first wood is birch and strips are maple and polar, so sanding and stainning are out.

Wouldn't it have been easier to use birch? :smileywink:

The only option left is paint.

I would suggest coating the whole surface to a consistent color...

Adam is right - painting is one way to accomplish this.  Also consider a "refinishing" kit like TRANSFORMATIONS.  These type of kits have everything you need inside and has a clear finish to protect the surface.
