How do I dispose of deck wood?

My husband is resurfacing our deck but we have nowhere to dispose of the old wood. It is in terrible shape: warped, cracked, painted/stained on one side, so I do not see it being used for a repurposing project. I have no idea if this wood is pressure treated or not since it was built before we bought the house and it has not exactly stood the test of time. It may have been built of regular 2x6's that weren't treated.

You can cut it into small pieces and put it out with your regular trash.  The other option is to call a refuse hauler and ask when they would charge to haul it away.

Old deck boards, fluorescent light tubes, paint, tires, expired cell phones ... disposal sites for almost every hazardous or other material can be found at:

earth911.org

Click the "Recycle Search" tab and when the search page launches, simply enter your material and your zip code.

You'll receive a list of recycle centers in your area that accept your materials.

Fees often apply.
