How do I remove a stripped screw in the motor collar of the Hampton Bay 52 inch Glendale?

I installed the Hampton Bay 52 inch Glendale via the close mount installation.  The head of the screws on the motor collar became stripped and now I cannot tighten them nor can I remove them.  The fan is not fully secure now because of this and may cause a hazard.  Do you have any advice?

Hi whunt_29720,

The heads of screws can become stripped very easily, especially with power screw drivers that we find so helpful these days.

The hardness of the bit combined with the relatively soft screw material can damage screws enough to make them impossible to work with.

Fortunately, The Home Depot offers a wide variety of Screw Extractors that can help you rectify your problem. They are available in the stores and on-line.

Here's a picture of one of the simplest extractors:

Place the proper sized bit in your drill and set it to "reverse". The bit grabs the screw and pulls it right out.

I hope this helps you to enjoy your new ceiling fan.
