How do you install drywall over existing tile in the kitchen?

If the tile is mostly located between the countertops and cabinets - then using a basic construction adhesive will work fine. You still will want to tape/mud the seams, and sand smooth.  Using a thin version of drywall like 3/8 inch will be tree best way to eliminate any build up around the edges and fixtures.  

 

Keep in mind that before attaching the sheets - you will need to unscrew all electrical light switches and plugs so that you can secure them over the drywall.
