How do you paint over red dyed wood?

My kitchen cabinets, from the 1920's, are dyed red.  I believe they were dyed with an alcohol dye.  I would like to paint them white.  I've heard there may be issues with the dye leaching through the paint.  Can someone recommend products and methods to repaint my cabinets white without them turning pink?

Thank you!

Hello Jeff1575, and welcome to the Community!

There is a product that will hid the red, use B-I-N Shellac-Based White Interior/Spot Exterior Primer and Sealer. Make sure the surface is clean & dry before applying B-I-N Shellac-Based product, follow the directions on the can, you may need two coats, but I'm confident this will cover the red dyed wood, it goes on white. Once the final coat of primer dries, you can then apply your paint.
