How should I install a closet rod into an outer wall in a cinder block house?

This is my first time living in a cinder block home.  One of the walls in my closet is the outer wall, under the drywall and vapor barrier.  How should I install that side of the closet so it will be weight-bearing, but not cause moisture/other problems?

Hey shameelou,

Thanks for your question and welcome to the community!

As long as you use screws rated for masonry and a sturdy closet pole, you shouldn't have any issues with the weather getting into it.

One system that is great for this is the use of closet pole sockets alongside the screws just mentioned.

Click on the image of these pole sockets below to see if this would be the best solution for you.

Once you have these, use a screw that is the same diameter of the holes that are in the socket. Don't go over than 2 inches in length, and remember to use screws rated for masonry.

Some of these screws will require you to use a pilot hole first, but some like Tapcon, won't. It just depends on which brand you purchase.

Let me know if you have any additional questions,
