How to build a small covered front porch ?

How to build a small covered front porch want to use 4 by 4 it will be 10 Ft high with the top 10 Ft about 4 Ft long then dropping down to a hand rail going down to the bottom step 3 Ft down my question is what would be a good hand rail to go between the 4 by 4 I have the tin but what a good material's list.

The materials list is pretty typical for a common porch covering:

 

  • 4X4 or 6X6 support posts.
  • 2X8 support braces for the roof on the posts.
  • 2X6's for the roof support - 16 inches on center.
  • Plywood roof or OSB.
  • Metal flashing for the roof.
  • Asphalt shingles.
  • Handrails and spindles.

 

To address your question about what type of handrail you should use:  I like using a "never-rot" solution like VERANDA.
