How to change a brass(old gold) chandelier to be silver?

I would like to change my 2 gold colored (old gold with gold cord along the arms) chandeliers to silver and gold leaf mirror and large picture frames also to silver, maybe silver leaf. Any advice?

Hello bpg!

Gold leaf is not available at The Store.

You'll locate this type product at your local craft store.

Spray primer and spray paint, are available and many customers have successfully used these product to make long-lasting new colors on their lights, faucets, shower surrounds, mirrors, etc.

Go to The Store and ask your Paint Associate to show you variations of silver.

You should see chrome, metallic silver, hammered silver, and a few other options.

Prep by removing the item and washing with TSP in warm water.

600-grit wet sandpaper does an excellent job of dulling the shiny finish without creating gouges.

Rinse well after sanding and air dry.

Spray two light coats of metal primer about one-hour apart.

Spray three light coats of your new color about one-hour apart.

Inspect and touch up imperfections ... then enjoy.

NOTE:

I always recommend trying new colors in a small area before completing the full project.

Take your time and spray light coats rather than trying to cover in one heavy coat.
