How to install manufactured stone on a wall behind a woodstove?

Would like to learn how to install manufactured stone both on cement board and drywall, around a chimney indoors. Are there any workshops or videos or knowledgeable people who can help me. Thanks

Hello remodelme and welcome to the community.

MS International makes several natural stone products that can be attached to Substrate that are structurally sound, clean, dry and free of debris.  Substrate can be cement block wall or cement board attach to wall.  See installation process.  Home Depot carries a wide variety of colors and configurations of MS International products available on the shelf in the store, through special order catalog from a flooring specialist or online.

Veneer Stone is company that manufactures stone and brick veneer products.  Here is a video by Quikrete that shows the installation of Veneer stone.  Veneer Stone does not recommend the application directly to cement board (Durock or Hardie board) because the surface is too smooth but can be applied over drywall using the following method of lath and mortar scratch coat as illustrated in the previous video.   Veneer stones Help line is 1-877-878-6631, where you can get additional information and help.            FLD.CREE.S01.JPG

Another brand of actual stone is Halquist Stone’s Thinstone Thincut veneer.  Halquest recommends installing over cement board or plywood but NOT over drywall, see attached installation instructions.

The above products can be purchase from most Home Depot locations.  You may find depending on your region that your local Home Depot may have additional chooses.  I suggest you contact Contractor services or flooring specialist to find all the options.

Building codes requirements vary from area to area.  Check with local authorities for building code requirements in your area.  Carefully read all instructions before proceeding.
