How to paint over marmorino plaster

I need to paint over marmorino plaster. The finish is super slick and I am not sure if it is wax or polyurethane. While the wall looks textured, it is smooth to the touch. Can this be just lightly sanded and primed? I use Behr Marquee paint.

Hello sjhc and welcome to the Community.

If your walls have wax on them, which many marmorino plaster walls do you will have to remove that wax.  To remove that wax, apply paint thinner to a rag and clean the wall thoroughly.  Then apply a latex primer. Let dry and apply your top coat of Behr Marquee paint.

Thank you for your inquiry.
