How to repair wallboard paper tear

I pulled the wallpaper off in our bathroom so that it could be painted.  Some of the wallboard paper went with the wallpaper.  What is the best way to repair the wallboard paper so that it can be painted?

tspence5,

The underlyng pulpy brown drywall paper must first be sealed with a non-water soluble primer such as the original Kilz or CoverStain. This is important because the water in spackling compounds or drywall mud will cause the drywall paper to wrinkle up if not sealed first. A water based primer will also cause the drywall paper to wrinkle up. Once sealed with an oil or shellac base primer, any water based patching compound can be used to patch. The patch should then once again be sealed. this time, water based primer is fine. followed by the finish coat.

Hope this has helped
