I am trying to decide the difference between media and just electric fireplaces

we are looking to add an electric fireplace to our livingroom and aren't sure the differences between the "media" and the "flicker" type "fires".

   You ask a very good question here..The main difference is that a Media flamed fireplace is a console that combines the ability to hold a TV and other electronics as well as being an electric fireplace. "Flicker" flames are more commonly found in electric fireplaces that stand alone.  Most of the "media" type fireplace/consoles have the ability to regulate the flame and prevent it from flickering and distracting you while viewing TV.

Media fireplaces are traditionally fireplaces that are built into a cabinet with shelves for DVD players, cable boxes and stereos. They are larger, more stable units designed to put large flatscreen televisions on. The other electric fireplaces are smaller and could be considered portable, to be moved room to room.


Most all of them are electric flicker types because real fire fireplaces get too hot for electronics and running gas lines is an ordeal.
