I have an existing slate in cement patio. I want to extend the patio 15 ft which is dirt covered.

Extension of patio 15 ft which is dirt. Can I use a sand base over the existing slate patio then set the pavers and excavate the dirt area with a pea base 4 inches then 2 inch sand to accept the pavers?

Hi there louisgizzi,

I'm Jen, from The Home Depot.

I would like to make sure I am understanding your question.  Do you want to put a new patio using pavers over your existing patio and then extend it an additional 15 feet?

If so, yes you can do that.  The important part is to use enough base and sand to keep the pavers in place on the existing side and then make sure you dig down enough to keep them both level and stable at the same time.  The back of the bags will tell you how deep and how many bags you will need to complete your project.
