I have two fairly deep 4" scratches in a dark reddish-brown plank wood floor. Fixable?

Hello Cameo1 and thank you for joining The Community.  We are glad that you are here.

There are several options to try to minimize the scratches.  Clean the area to ensure no dirt or dust is in the scratches.  Fill in the scratches with putty, touch up with pencils or marker kits, then blend "out" to create a soft even look.   Wipe away excess colorant and remember: 2 light coats are better than 1 heavy application.  Blend or “feather out” the new color into the existing finish and repeat as needed to achieve a similar color.

Do you know the manufacturer of the wood plank? Some of our manufacturers have touch-up kits that can match the color and finish (sheen) to minimize the scratches.

If neither of these plans work, or the scratches are not minimized to your satisfaction, you will need to cut out the planks and replace with new ones.

Be sure to identify the source of the scratch and remove it if possible.  Consider putting pads under furniture legs, adding a rug to a high traffic area, or not wearing rough shoes in that room (if possible).

Best wishes on your project.
