Thank you for your question!

You will want to paint your fireplace screen with a high heat paint, such as Rust-Oleum High Heat. It is available in a satin finish brush-on and spray, and is also available in a high gloss spray.

Choosing between a dull or shiny finish is a personal preference. Some people prefer a shiny finish and some prefer a duller finish. If your screen is shiny now, you may want to stick with a shiny finish if you like the way it looks.

Whether the fire screen is actually wire screen material or woven chain, the spray cans will work better, not clogging up the material.

I would agree that the brass color tends to look somewhat dated. I used the matte black spray to blank out the couple decorative louvers on my gas fireplace. They now match the factory finish on the other frontal parts of the enclosure. Definitely an improvement!
