Flooring

I'm a DIY-er - laying vinyl tiles in a pre-war NYC apt. Need advice on what prep is necessary.

Pre-war apt. with narrow wooden slatted floor.  Has two layers of vinyl sheeting on it...probably concrete under the stove.  Do I absolutely need to put down plywood.  I don't want the lady to trip at the entrance because adding plywood will make the floor too high.

My thoughts are as long as the tiles stick well and do not curl or lift up - you should be fine installing over the existing floor.

All tiles are specific to this type of installation, so I hope some other members chime in on this.
