I'm building I'm building a raised twin bed over shelving units

I'm building a raised twin bed over shelving units and need a flat plywood platform.  What is the best plywood and thickness needed? How much weight can it hold?

Look up "torsion box" on something like Wikipedia. You'll find some platform bed designs on here utilizing them that will get you started in coming up with a design. To piqué your interest, a torsion box can be very lightweight, but incredibly strong, with little deflection over a span.

You'll notice in this example, it is built using hardboard and pegboard. The next picture will show this same torsion box supporting 300 lbs of brick.
