I'm installing a wood stove and want to reduce the clearance from the back of the stove to the no combustible wall from 12" to 4". How do I do this?

I'm installing a wood stove and want to reduce the clearance from the back of the stove to the non combustible wall from 12" to 4". I'm installing UL listed heat shield board with 1" spacers between the board and the wall. Will this allow the reduced clearance?

Hi Tomleen,

Based on the limited information you have provided I cannot say yes or no. Consult the stove manufacturers installation instructions, there are many different stove styles and each has specific requirements for wall clearance. If you do not have the instructions contact the manufacturer, or your local building department for the specific installation requirements in your area.
