Installing foamboard in attic on wall studs


  Would like some helpful ideas on the installation of foamboard on wall studs on exterior of existing finished attic room. Outside wall is exposed to unheated side of attic.

Hello JB1 and welcome to the Community.

If your studded wall has no insulation at all, I would first suggest installing a fiberglass batt insulation with the paper face vapor barrior side towards the warm heated surface between the studs. 



Then put up the ridged foamboard isulation using adhesive applied to the stud surfaces or capped head fastners. 



 One brand Loctite PL300. is specifically designed for that purpose.



 Here is an installation guide provide by Owen-Corning for Foamular ridged insulation boards.  This will give you the greats R-value.
