Leaking vinyl windows from frame

Over the last few oddly directed storms I noticed water coming from under my covered porch siding and from the door frame-on top.  After looking for issues I did a water test in the frame, hoping they would drain out the weep holes.  There was drainage out the weep holes, but also 6feet under the windows under the covered porch siding and door frame.  Short of replacing the windows is there a way to seal the leaks with no access to the lower chanel?

Thank you.

Hi ChadSpencer!

Sorry to learn of your problem.

It isn't perfectly clear from your statement, but it seems you are seeing water come from under the covered porch siding and from the door frame.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but since the porch is covered, it seems that water would be entering the building from above ... possibly from the roof or maybe from the gutters.

Leaks are very common in the roof valleys as well as from overflowing gutters.

I made this video to demonstrate sealing leaks on the roof.

In addition, leaks can come from almost any joint in your building ... where walls meet roof, where window or door meet walls, and particularly along the top edge of any exposed window or door.

In these locations, you might simply use paintable caulk to seal the joints.

Start by repairing the most likely water sources.

Add flashing above the vinyl window and then re-test your efforts with water.

If the areas still leaks, repair secondary areas like the shingles and re-test.

And continue until you stop the leak.

Often, homeowners get frustrated with issues that they cannot repair.

However, regular home maintenance requires that you periodically caulk and patch potential leak sources.

So, don't get frustrated if you don't find the leak source immediately.

Be systematic and you'll eventually find the source and stop the leak.
