Lost key, office door. Cheaper to buy new lockset, or bring in lockset and make a key?

Oh! I thought I only had the one line to ask the whole question! It'd be customer-friendly to let the asker know that up front ("This is only the subject line, you'll get a whole big fat texarea after you jump through these hoops...")

I've lost the key to my indoor office door. Would it be cheaper to buy a whole new lockset and replace it, or to pop out the lockset, bring it into the store, and have a key made for it? (there are other people in the building, so it'd be safe to leave it open for a day.)

Thanks. :-) I live 2 blocks from the nearest store, and I can probably talk the landlord out of nine bucks.

Question answered - is there some way to flag the or close the thread so nobody wastes any time on it?

In any case, thanks.

It depends on what kind of lockset you want to buy.  A basic entry lockset goes for about $9.

No idea how much Home Depot charges to rekey a lock or if it's available in all stores.
