Hello tic1335!

Welcome to The Community!

Melamine is one of those surfaces designed to repel dirt and stains.

Likewise, it will repel most paints that you might use on cabinets.

YOUR SOLUTION:

Zinsser Cover Stain.jpg  Zinsser Cover Stain is an oil-based primer.

According to the manufacturer, it "sticks to all surfaces without sanding."

Tri Sodium Phosphate.jpg  I recommend cleaning the surface with warm water and TSP before priming.

Allow the surface to air-dry, then simply prime, wait about two-hours, and paint.

From the factory, most cabinets are finished with either satin or semi-gloss paint.

NOTE:

Ask your Paint Associate to tint your primer similar to your new color ... you'll add your first coat of color while priming.
