Moaning Toilet

My toilet moans sometimes when it's been "idle" for a while.  It doesn't happen right after flushing.  There have been no changes in our plumbing since the house was built in 2002-03.  The moaning started about 2 months ago and is not constant or consistent.  Any ideas for a cause &/or solution?  Thanks!

Replace the fill valve.  They're less than $10 and probably involve a 1/2 hour of work.  Home Depot SKU #147966.

HI JMC2,

The issue may very well be the fill valve, however, there is a reason for the moaning and that is water leaking into the bowl. The leak lowers the water level enough to trip the fill valve which then brings the water level back to normal. The process repeats all day long. I would replace the flapper in the tank, it's probably warn and leaking. It's even simpler to replace than the fill valve. If that doesn't solve the problem, replace the fill valve.
