Lawn & Garden

My husband cut down a couple plants that I'm not sure he should have.

I planted a Gaura passionate blush and a Hardy Hibiscus last season and this spring my husband cut them down.  I don't know if he should have or not. Will they come back know or should I plan to replant them?

Howdy Missclean,

I will answer each plant separately to get you the best answers possible.

Guara Lindheimeri Passionate Blush does well with about a 50 percent cut just before Spring. If they were cut down by more than half (such as all the way to the ground), the chances are they will not come back.

Hardy Hibiscus comes in many hybrids and with about a 10 percent pruning will give you many blooms all season long. If these were cut down beyond 30 percent I seriously doubt they will survive such an aggressive cutting.

The good news is that your local Home Depot most likely can get you replacements for your yard. If you would post some photos perhaps we could give you more information to help you get your yard in tip top shape.

Happy Gardening,
Coach Dave
