Plumbing

My pipes groan at infrequent times, when I'm not using the water.

My pipes have been moaning at random times throughout the day. The moan lasts from 2 seconds to 20 seconds, and it sound like it's coming form different parts of the house, which is a 3 bedroom ranch. I am not using the water when it moans. Also, there is a little bubbling going on in the toilet bowl. Could all this be related to the vent pipes? How do I fix it?

Hi Tigrelily,

I think you have hit the problem on the head. You may have a vent that is clogged and the moaning is the air trying to escape the system. The bubbling in the toilet is a sign of this problem.

Have a plumber check all of the vents for blockages, sometimes a bird will build a nest in a vent, have them all cleared and this will most likely solve the problem.
