OSB stairs

I took off the carpeting of my stairs.  OSB wood as the tread part of step.  I put wood mud on them to fill in the rough part, then sanded.  They actually look pretty nice.  Do I need to Kilz prime them first before I paint them?  I bought outdoor flooring paint.

Hello bro101.  Welcome to the Community!

Yes, I would definitely prime the stairs first.  Floor paint is not often the "prime & paint in one" type.  Even if it was, primer will do a better job of sealing the wood.  Kilz, or any other decent primer will work just fine.

I would definitely recommend an oil base primer on OSB. The water in water based primers tends to swell OSB, resulting in a grainy finish. An oil primer does not do this, also, it sands very easily, resulting in a very smooth base for the final coating. The "Original Kilz" would work fine.
