My name is Tom, known here as HD 116 and I am happy to assist you with this question. As a remodeler for many years, tile work has been a common request and the way things are done has changed a bit.

Many tubs are now made without a flange, and the Universal Plumbing Code was changed in 1992 to require a tile bead kit or it's equivalent to ensure a 1" watertight seal between a tub or shower pan with the wall assembly. There are several manufacturers of the product including Kohler, American Standard, and Shluter. Shluters Dilex - AS is highly recommended by myself and professionals, works with 1/4" to 1/2" tile, and a link to it follows;

I hope that is useful and welcome to our community.
