Outdoor carpeting

The surface of the low traffic lanai is a gravel aggregate. The gravel is coming loose so I want to cover it with indoor/outdoor carpeting. All of the directions I have seen refer to starting with a "smooth clean surface". How can I easily accomplish this? Is there a sealer I can apply first? Will that be sufficient?

Thanks for your help.

Greetings Vista and welcome to the community.

Vista outdoor carpeting’s are great products and definitely an easy way to improve a look of your outdoor patio but in order to achieve a successful installation you would indeed need a smooth clean surface.

And unfortunately installing over gravel aggregate would not be an option.

In addition from my experience there is no sealer that you would be able to “freeze” gravel with but the ordinary concrete mix.

I’m not sure what is the look you are trying to accomplish is but having gravel aggregate already present would make a patio paver installation a breeze.
