Paint on inter doors and trim is coming off in big sheets.....need help to fix this

So sorry Jeff...

 

The most common cause is that latex paint is painted over an oil based or lacquer painted surface.  The solution is to prime the doors before painting. 

 

Another possibility is that the paint hasn't had time enough to cure (harden). Darker colors will react this way and may need 2 - 3 weeks to completely cure.

 

 

I understand that it may be too late for that now in your situation. So, here are a few suggestions:

 

  • Strip off the new paint while it may still be pliable, prime, and paint again
  • If there are stopping points on the doors like panels or frames - you can possibly only strip the areas that will get the most traffic (like the side with the door handle, bottom section, and center. Prime and paint.
  • Paint them again with a quality oil-based paint. The oil-based paint will dry hard and encapsulate the latex paint - adding a bit more protection.
