Painted Deck

I have a painted deck that is doing well, but there are some spots (like over knots in the wood) where the paint has worn away and the wood is visible.  I don't want to strip the whole deck - is there anything I can do at these spots to prevent the wood from being damaged?  Or do I have to strip the whole thing and start over?

You could certainly spot paint but the color won't be a perfect match because the paint on the deck has weathered.  Scrape away any loose paint, give it a light sanding with 100 grit paper, prime, and paint.
