Make sure you use masking tape first! And get good sandpaper.

Are you going to paint or stain?

Hello Kirk0Julie!

Painting cabinets has several relatively simple steps:

1) Lightly sand with 220-grit ... just enough to knock off the existing shine;

2) Wipe off sanding dust with a dry terry towel;

3) Prime with an oil-base primer like Zinsser Cover Stain;

4) Wait about two-hours; and

5) Paint with either water-base or oil-base semi-gloss (or satin if you prefer less shine).

NOTE:

I like Emily's suggestion ... use Frog Tape to ensure you create a professional, straight-line transition.
