Patio door assembly replacement

I have a 3 panel patio door that I need to replace and would like to do it myself before the cold weather arrives. The center panel is a hinged door while the other 2 panels have glass. How do I measure for the replacement assembly and then what are the best steps to replace it? My siding is Hardie board.

Hello Norseman.  Welcome to the Community!

Here is the Anderson guide for measuring patio door rough opening dimensions:

There are a variety of "standard" sizes for patio doors made by manufacturers.  Typically stores will stock 5'x80" and 6'x80" 2 panel doors.  Manufacturers will stock many other "standard" sizes in 2, 3, and 4 panel patio doors which can be ordered and delivered fairly quickly.  Custom made sizes are also available for what I would call unusual circumstances.  These doors would be built to order.

As far as installation goes, I can point you to a couple of installation manuals so you can get an idea of how patio doors go in.  You will get specific instructions with the door you order, and they can vary depending on both manufacturer and the door design.  Here are a couple of options:

In addition, there are a few other threads on this Community that you may find interesting.

I hope this helps,
