Paver Questions

I am working for a neighbor, and he is wanting to to help extend is patio. He told me he wanted to use concrete 12"x12" pavers, but wanted 6" of pebbles and rocks between all the pavers. The question here is how do I keep the pavers from shifting around and even with the rocks and pebbles?

He has given me sand to work with, and I just need to level it. Any suggestions?

Hello and thank you for joining our How To forum.

Well first thing that came to my mind is to use some scrape pieces of 2x6" or 2x4" boards. Actual size of the 2x6" lumber is 5-1/4 so I guess that would probably be close enough to the 6" inches he wants. After you're all done laying pavers you can remove boards and infill with the pebbles.

On the side note I would use compactor to compact the sand base before all of this goes in place. Compactor can be rented at the participating Home Depot locations with the tool rental.
