This plants flowers are unmistakable. Flowers the size of dinner plates appear in the summer. Once plant goes dormant, cut it back to about 6 inches from the ground in the fall and cover with mulch. There are several varieties of this plant, all of which have a slightly different leaf and flower.

This plant is not to be confused with the tropical hibiscus or the deciduous shrub Althea hibiscus.
