Plug in pendant light made into a hardwood light

I read on The Home Depot Community page that if you wanted to hardware a plug in pendant light it is as simple as cutting of the plug. What if the plug has a switch on it, can you just cut the plug and switch off (it's too long with it anyway) and then just wire it in and it will work with with wall switch?

The short answer is yes, you can can off the plug and switch.  You have to be a little careful about how you wire this lamp because code requires that connections be made in an approved and accessible electrical junction box.  Most of the manufactured pendant lights have a means in the canopy to support the weight of the fixture.  If you want to fabricate something, then you need to think about that too.

What I wanted to say in that second to last sentence is:

Most of the manufactured pendant lights have a means in the canopy to protect the cord from damage as it passes through the metal and support the weight of the fixture.

Good luck with your project and let us know if you have any more questions.
