Prepping pine wood paneling/wainscoting for paint

We are going to paint over our 30 year old natural wood wainscoting, and we are not sure how to prep the panels.  This is not the wood paneling that goes from floor to ceiling in multiple boards, but rather is about 1/3 of the height of the wall with molding on it.  We will need to prep/caulk but are not sure of what products to use. Any help would be appreciated!

Hi kidswally!

Paintable caulk, like Alex Plus, is the first step to seal cracks between your wainscoting and the wall.

Smooth the caulk as it is applied and allow to dry for several hours.

A good quality primer, tinted to be similar to your new color, will be the next step ... Zinsser 123 will work.

After the primer dries about an hour, you'll be able to paint, using your color and sheen of choice.

This video will help you select sheen.
