Putting railings onto my concrete steps

I had removed my iron railings on my concrete steps and replaced them with wooden railings. This is on the North face of the house and one of the wood railings rotted out. I want to put in something more maitenance free. The way I attached the wood railings was bolted into the side of the concrete. I see the vinyl railings for sale online and was wondering if those can be cut down to size. I see 8 foot sections online and the top of my stairs are about 5 feet.

Hello Bkcmurphy,

Welcome to the community.

Yes most of them can be cut down to size.

I found one that is offered on homedepot.com that is 6’ and is bolted down like you mentioned.

Here is the link to it so you can check it out. All of the related items will be in the middle of the page. Like a post install kit, base cover, installation brackets, jack post, and caps.

If you would like to see how it is installed click here to go to the installation guild.

I think the vinyl railing would be a good choice to fight back against the weather and pests.

Let me know if you have any other questions. I would love to help.
