Re: Outside laundry vent

I want to replace an outside laundry vent. The old one is black metal and is a little smaller than the plastic ones I have been looking at. I bought a metal vent but am unable to cut the connector piece down to the size I want. I have attempted to have the vent cut down at several places including ACE but was told no. Please help Home Depot representatives.

Hello Zw_iCK--4!

If you cut down the size of the vent, you could easily create a choke point in the vent that will either clog or limit air flow out the laundry vent.

In either case, you may cause moisture to back up into the dryer, which will slow the drying time for your clothes.

Instead of cutting down the size of the vent, try opening the port in the side of your building where the vent installs.

Ask your Hardware Associate to show you a 4-inch Hole Saw.

This tool will make easy work of opening a hole large enough to properly install the new vent.
