Re: Rust-Oleum Cabinet Transformations

I'm planning to use this product on some inexpensive cabinets in a manufactured home.  The doors and drawer fronts are not wood or laminate but appear to be an MDF core with a hardboard exterior that has a wood grain paper facing.  The MDF (or similar material) core is exposed on the edges and the perimeter of the face and has a paint finish.  Will these surfaces stand up to the deglossing step without being damaged?

In regards to the finished surfaces of your cabinets, you will be just fine using the deglosser. Since the edges are raw and porous, you may want to consider using a water- based primer. Rust-Oleum recommends using Zinsser 1-2-3. Using primer will make the surface hard and smooth so you can work with it easier.
