Red wire in remote controlled ceiling fan

Hi all, I’m trying to install a remote controlled ceiling fan and having trouble. I am in the US and trying to install a Hunter Dempsey.

The wires look like so: https://imgur.com/a/4DIapAt

From the instructions, I’ve connected the following:

* Bare copper to green ground

* Yellow from receiver to black from fan

* Blue from receiver to blue from fan

* Black from ceiling to black from receiver

* White from ceiling to white from fan and white from receiver

The instructions don’t mention a red wire coming from the ceiling, and I don’t know what to do with it. I tried just capping it off but the fan and light don’t work.

I’ve checked all the connections, the circuit breaker, the switch, etc. I’ve reconnected everything twice so I’m feeling confident about the connections. There was also a working ceiling fan there previously so I know the source is fine.

Any insight on how to get this fan working?

Thanks in advance.

A good electrician will provide two "hot" wires for a ceiling fan, one for the fan and one for the lights.  Those are typically connected to a "dual" fan control mounted in the wall so that the light brightness and fan speed can be controlled independently.  What I suspect happened is that control was never installed or someone removed it.  Cap off the black wire and use the red instead, connecting it to the black wire from the remote.
