Reduce Impact and Sound of Dogs in a Co-Op

I live in a 100 year old co-op.  I have an underlayment under my floor.  Then I have rugs with a pad.  I have 2 dogs who like to play and somehow the noise still bothers my downstairs neighbor.  Any suggestions for a product to put over the floor but under the carpet to reduce the impact and sound??  Thanks.

Hey Blueloot,

Thanks for your question and welcome to the community.

Depending on if your co-op will let you, the best way to eliminate or greatly reduce the amount of noise is to first start at the subfloor itself.

Squeaky floor joists are usually the biggest culprit for noise makers. You can use screws made just for this purpose. The ones we sell are sold at your local Home Depot and here online called Squeek-Ender.

Another option would be to simply place more layers of rugs or a thicker new carpet pad underneath the carpet itself. But at the end of the day, getting to the subfloor and reinforcing the squeak or noisy areas should greatly reduce the chances of the noise.

Let us know if you have any further questions,

Joseph
