Remodeling whole house

I am getting ready to remodel the house that we are leasing with an option to buy, but I have no idea what to do. All the floors need sanded down and refinished, and the kitchen and bathrooms need a total overhaul. I am wanting to start on the kitchen, then move on to the main floor bathroom. What can I do with the kitchen to make it up real nice without incurring too much cost? I am already purchasing new, black appliances; but I want to put in hardwood floors and refurbish the cabinets and get new countertops. In the bathroom, I wanted to take out the tub that takes up too much room and put in a corner shower to open the space and make it not so crowded. What supplies will I need for each of these projects and what can you tell me to help get it done quickly and under budget(which is really low)?

Hello hotmamakx2!  It sounds like you will be having your hands full soon!

First I would encourage you to get educated about the projects that you want to undertake in the house.  We have many ways to help you at The Home Depot!  I have several recommendations to do your research and get the time, labor, and financial estimates that you need to start your remodeling project.

Now to do your homework!  Every weekend we offer free how-to clinics at our stores. You can talk to the class leaders, who are Home Depot associates working in those departments.  You will get the best help for your specific needs and associates love working with you on your projects.  Several of the classes this weekend (and every weekend in January) will be great fits for your projects.  On Saturday we have several classes: the 10 am class is Tile: The Right Look & Tools and the 1 pm class is Small Bath Updates.  Sunday’s 2 pm clinic is Refinishing Cabinets.  One of the best things you can do is to take project pictures to the store to discuss with our associates.

Another great opportunity happening next week is the Thursday evening Do-It-Herself Workshop featuring Redo & Renew Your Bath.  The class is available at all stores nationwide starting at 7 pm local time.  You can sign up at www.homedepot.com/clinics - and it is okay if you are a Do-It-Himselfer!

The Flooring Department can help with the floor sanding and refinishing as well as hardwood floor installation considerations.  The Kitchen Department can help with your cabinet, including refacing and renewal, as well as countertop options.  We even have cabinet transformation kit and laminate countertop paint in the Paint Department.  Be sure to talk to someone in the Plumbing Department about removing the tub and replacing it with the corner shower.  There may be permits required so call your local government offices for more information.

You will want to bookmark our How-To tab on www.homedepot.com!  There are project guides and how-to videos.  You can join the Home Improver Club to get alerts and updates.

Home remodeling has become big business. It is increase the value of our home for future sale or simply make of our home more comfortable to live in now. Whether doing it our self or hiring a professional Home remodeling contractor.
