Replacing basement windows that have a metal frame set in concrete

How can I remove the metal frames on my old basement windows. They are original to the house,  and set into the concrete foundation.  I would like to put in new replacement windows.  Thank you.

There are certainly several ways to renovate your windows Ruba816:

1) Remove the metal frames by deconstructing the surround and then rebuilding the opening; or

2) Framing for new windows to cover and conceal the embedded metal frame ... which will shrink your window size.

In either case, you'll remove as much of the existing metal frame as possible.

HOW TO:
I like removing as much of the existing metal frame without deconstructing the wall.

Diablo reciprocating saw metal demolition blades are exception and designed for projects like yours.

You'll make quick work of removing most of the existing metal frame without wall demolition.

And you'll be ready to frame for your new windows in no time.

FINALLY:
Once framed and installed, consider adding decorative trim to complete the "finished" appearance of your new windows.
