Retro-Looking Tiles

To give emphasis and a focal point to certain floors or walls in your home, a good option as a design element is to use tiles with designs.

In the case of some patterns, you can get an older, "retro-style" appearance. Even though this may look like linoleum, the image above is actually tile by Merola

Of course, if a design like this matched with avocado-colored appliances doesn't really suit you, you can opt for other styles and for other applications.

A good example of this is shown below from the folks at Splashjet Tile. You can accent just a wall or small area, like an entrance foyer to give yourself a dramatic look without making the rest of the space too busy.

Generally speaking, lots of styles and choices can be considered 'retro' when it comes to tiles. You can always compliment your retro feel by not just paint colors either. Consider bringing in window treatments and furniture to further approach that look.

One example in a broad sense is using a subway tile design for a backsplash, as an example. For a further discussion on using on this element of tile design, please click here

Tiles with designs aren't generally available at your local Home Depot, but a big selection of subway versions are.

I'll leave you with one more type, again by Merola, which is a great design for small spaces. Click here to read more about it.

With any project like this, ultimately its up to you to decide what you'd like to implement as a lasting look that will be enjoyed for years to come.
