Hello hdrobert and welcome to the Community.

If you ask a sales associate at the store, to special order a door from the measurements you brought in and the door does not fit because those measurements are not correct, you CAN NOT return the door.  If you buy stock doors and they do not fit, you may return them if they are in the same condition as when you bought them.

The following are installation guides on that will illustrate the proper way to measure for both an interior slab install and pre-hung install.

You should measure the width of the door at the top middle and bottom.  Measure the height of the door also in 3 places.  Any to make sure your opening is square, you should measure both diagonals from lower left to upper right and vise versa.

If you would interested in having Home Depot measure and install, that also can be arranged.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Thanks for the inquiry.
